Lunch at Woka Woka

Woka Woka
Shop 20-22 Warrigal Square, 261 Warrigal Rd, Eight Mile Plains

Sometimes when I'm bored on the weekend I'll pop over to mum and dad's and see what they have to offer. Their solution to entertain me is usually to feed me and I'm not one to complain about that.

For lunch a couple of weeks back, mum and dad took me to Woka Woka at Warrigal square. I wasn't sure what type of food I was in the mood for and they reasoned that since this was fusion Asian, there would be something on the menu to appeal to me.

The restaurant was actually extremely busy. We just managed to get a table outside. Others who arrived later had to queue up or go elsewhere. I'm not sure if it was our location outdoors or the general busyness but once we were seated it took ages to get the attention of waitstaff. Dad had to go inside to hail someone to take our order.

The food menu is very varied both in terms of dishes on offer and styles of ordering. You can select from the a la carte menu or order a lunch special or choose a group set. On this day we each chose a dish from the lunch special menu.

Chicken and corn soup

The lunch specials were served with complimentary chicken and corn soup as well as Hong Kong milk tea. It worked out well because we had ordered a soup dish as well (not realising the lunch specials already came with soup) but Woka Woka forgot to take our soup order. If they remembered the soup we would've had soup overload.

Eggplant and pork mince

My pick from the lunch specials was the pork mince and eggplant. The eggplant was cooked well though perhaps not quite as mushy as I personally like. The sauce was delicious and a bit on the sweet side, but I enjoyed it.

Beef brisket curry

Dad ordered the beef brisket curry. Disappointingly, parts of this dish were a bit cold. They must've not heated it up properly. The flavour itself was good and there was a smokiness to the curry that we liked.

Soy chicken and char siu

Mum's pick of the day was a cold meat selection. This was the most average dish of the lot. The meat was ok but nothing special. We would probably stick to actual cooked dishes from Woka Woka in the future.

It was a mixed experience at Woka Woka with some service issues (difficulty getting waitstaff attention and a forgotten order) but the food was cheap and in general quite good. There are a lot of dishes on the menu so I imagine that individual experiences would heavily depend on what is ordered.
