Miss Bliss for Lunch

Although I'm technically in pre-wedding diet mode, I love eating out as much as I always have. How great is it then that there are diet-friendly cafes and restaurants out and about? The first of these I visited is a new local gem, Miss Bliss Wholefoods Kitchen in West End.

Miss Bliss is known for 'bliss balls' sold at various Brisbane markets. They've now expanded to providing all types of wholesome treats at a beautifully fitted cafe location on Vulture Street. I was worried I couldn't find the place but it's quite large and stands out at the popular intersection. Despite being new, it was also fairly busy when I visited which I take to be a good sign.

Miss Bliss offers all kinds of delicious breakfast, lunch, snack and beverage choices. I went for lunch and for 'research purposes' ordered two items. Yes, I know I am supposed to be dieting but what can I say? I have a duty as a food blogger and it's a tough life :p.

Wellness board

The first item I chose was the Miss Bliss wellness board. This was served up on a plate rather than a board but aside from the conceptual mismatch, it was everything I hoped for. There's a mix of interesting bits and pieces that you might not think to eat together (poached eggs, pickles and sauerkraut?) but made for a tasty and filling meal. The sauteed kale was particularly yummy and added a satisfying 'meatiness' to the plate.

Acai bowl

I ordered an acai bowl as lunch dessert. This was another large serve of food and I knew instantly that normal people wouldn't need to order 2 items to fill up for lunch. The acai smoothie portion was a great, thick consistency. The topping wasn't the usual muesli granola that I'm used to but rather a nut and seed mix that served to provide crunch but is probably lower in carbs. There were fresh strawberries and banana and even a bliss ball to add interest to the mix.

I had a really good impression after my first visit to Miss Bliss Wholefoods was amazing. Often at 'healthy' cafes I struggle to find something that interests me on the menu but there were loads of tantalizing options here. Service is really friendly and the cafe itself has an airy and relaxed feel to it. The food I tasted was filling, generous and so delicious. It's great to be able to say that about a healthy, guilt-free meal.
