About me

I'll keep this short and snappy...

I'm a Brisbane-based dentist by day, food blogger by night.

Hungry Kittens is my record of what I eat, where I go, what I cook.

This is my baby, my hobby, my passion in life. I don't do this for money and I don't have a fancy chunky camera with all the trimmings. All I know is I sure love eating and I don't feel like I've been anywhere unless I've photographed it and documented it.

This is the food blogger's curse, and I'm happy to commit :).

I love reading comments so please comment! If you want to drop me a line, write to hungrykittens.foodblog@gmail.com . Cheerio!

  1. Nice to meet you Cora...I've been reading your blog since its humble beginnings. =P

P.S. Charlie looks shaven and skinnier... =P

Which compared to now...is totally the opposite...keep up the good work. The sign of a bit of weight gain is because of good food thanks to a good cook.

  2. Unfortunately the 'sign of weight gain' is not my doing, but the result of pigging out secretly while I was in Shanghai.
It's nice you have faith in my abilities though :)

  3. The poor guy was hungry. We couldn't resist ourselves on a daily basis. The personal chef was away.

  6. Cora, your amazing and so young too! I love this blog, you inspire me!

YOU SHOULD AUDITION FOR THE NEXT MASTERCHEF!!!

  7. Thanks Sarah! However, I'm afraid that if I went through the MasterChef audition process, I'd be booted out at the onion-chopping stage. I love cooking but the natural ability is 'not there'. Doesn't stop me having fun with it though ;)

  8. I love the quality photos that your camera captures! What camera model are you using?

    Cheers,
    Charissa

  9. Hey Charissa,

It's a really bog-standard Canon camera. The IXUS 85 IS.

It's pretty easy to use so I'd recommend it for that but in time, if I get the funds, I'll move up to a DSLR. I think lighting is more important than the specific camera though.

  10. Just correcting myself to say that I actually have the IXUS 95 IS. I checked just then and realized I posted the wrong thing - all goes to show how little I know about cameras.

  11. Hey Cora,

I love reading your blog. I'm fairly new to Brisbane and I have no idea where all the good-food places are, so you've helped me out quite a lot. Your reviews are very comprehensive and helpful, and you seem like a lovely girl =)

    Cheers!

  14. Hi Cora,
I've just spent the whole night looking through your blog! My bf and I love food so your blog is a great find for me! I live in Sunnybank and is so excited to some of your posts are of eateries here! :)
Here's some places I think you could try at Market Square(you may have already reviewed them but this is the oldest post I've read)
    - Kingsfood: Homestyle Taiwanese Food, the fried tofu, shan dong ckn, sambal kailan is very good
    - Little Hong Kong: Good selection of BBQ meats, porridge and dry noodles are yummy too
    - Coffee Square: Their specials are usually quite nice, I love their peking pork ribs and the complimentary western style soup that comes with the set meal. Their Takoyaki is the best I've had in Brisbane.

And if you visit Sydney again, you have to try Thai Pothong in Newtown. It has the best service and very very yummy food. I never fail to visit Thai Pothong when I'm in Sydney.

Sorry for my long post. Love your blog!!! :)

  15. Thanks Ade! When I logged on and saw all your comments I nearly died from excitement. It's the best part of foodblogging when you're lead to believe that people other than immediate family/friends atually ready your posts! Because of how Blogger is designed, I couldn't find all your comments to reply back to but from what I saw, I think we have really similar 'taste' (hehe) in food/dining. LOVE good Asian eateries - it must be so easy for you living at Sunnybank!

Now that I'm on holidays I'm not doing much besides eating and occasionally cooking so there will be many more posts to come. I'm SO glad you like the blog!

Brisbane is tiny but one great thing about it is it's easier to have a taste of all the best whereas I find that if you go to a big city, there's TOO much stuff on offer and you get overwhelmed and there's always a chance of missing out. I feel as though if I keep up at the rate I'm going, I can eventually stay 'on top' of the Brisbane dining scene. I wouldn't be able to say that for Sydney or Shanghai that's for sure! They are too HAPPENIN'.

Cheers and thanks for the support, Cora

(keep giving me good recs too - oh my friend told me about this Viet/French restaurant in Paddington called Libertine. Do a Google, it looks quite amazing)

  16. Hi Cora, Just found your blog. A fantastic read! Thank you for mentioning my book Meals Men Love (Baked Stuffed Chicken Breasts with Mushroom Sauce). Much appreciated - and a great idea to use bacon instead of ham.
    Kind regards,

  17. You should try the restaurant 6 Degrees at Indooroopilly. I would quite enjoy reading your review on that place. I even have my own set meal there, which I called "The Janice Special", because Ly works there as the chef! :)

  18. Hi Jaz! I used to go there a lot with Charlie so my review is a bit outdated but I loved that place and we used to fight about it because I'd want to go for lunch and he'd say 'oh I just went there for lunch yesterday' or something :p.

  21. Hi Cora

Love your site! I'm coming to Brisbane for the first time in 2 weeks and wondering if you can either email me (sass.spice@yahoo.com) or send me links to relevant posts you may have written about 'must eat' places in Brisbane? Anything from fine dining, casual eating will be great. I will be in Brisbane for 4 days. Thanks in advance! x

  22. Hi sassandspice...

Thanks for your kind words. I'll e-mail you right away. I've been to some restaurants in the past before I started blogging so they deserve a mention too.

  23. Hey!
You seem like a huge icecream + green tea fan, so I must tell you this. In Indooroopilly shopping centre, there's a gelato bar on the top floor called Trampoline. The franchise is all around Melbourne and Sydney, but there's only one in Brisbane. I highly recommend the green tea and grape gelato. Also, the dark chocolate sorbet is mindblowing! =)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hi K...
OOOO grape gelato. Nice. And good work guessing because I went through a phase of a few months where I'd buy green tea ice-cream on the weekend religiously. Trampoline is def on my to-go now (love dessert place recs).

  25. I sort of hate you but love you at the same time for that shoe collection.

Hungry Kittens is an epic name! That's honestly the reason I clicked on the link in Urban Spoon :)

  26. Hi Ally...
Hahaha my heels are all just sitting in a corner of my room collecting dust. My bf's a shorty so I never really have a chance to wear them and now I think I've forgotten how? The most recent time I attempted heels, a woman at the casino stopped me and said 'I'M SORRY BUT THEY JUST LOOK SO UNCOMFORTABLE' because I just didn't look right. *sigh.

And thanks for clicking! Keep checking back and leaving comments (I LOVE reading them)

  27. OK!

I'm from the Philippines, only been here for a good 4 years and your blogs has put some restos in my 'must go' list.

I'm 25% chinese (grandma full chinese). Don't speak any though. :P keep posting more posts! :D

  28. Hi Idrhys...

You're so kind! Let me know how the veggie muffins go down. I haven't been cooking much recently but I'm picking it up again. Just have to try and find time/energy.

  31. Hi Cora
We are coming to Toowoomba this weekend and I need some advice. Can you recommend a good cafe for breakfast? Also have you been to Korean Village cnr Margaret and Neil St. I can't find any reviews on the web.
    Thanks
    Leisa

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hi Leisa...

For good breakfast, my housemate recommended Wendland Olives and Fine Food, corner of Bridge and Mary Street. I tried to go there once but it was too busy and I was too hungry so we gave up.

Also, the Star Gardentown Cafe on Margaret Street (in Gardentown itself, opposite Coffee Club) was good. I think their breakfast menu on the weekend is different (better?) than their weekday one. I thought I'd blogged it but can't find my post so I'm guessing I decided to save it for later??

Finally, Coffee Tea and Me makes the best coffee, IMO. That's also on Margaret Street, near JB HiFi (on the same side of the road).

I haven't heard of Korean Village. Is that a restaurant or grocer? I didn't know there was any Korean restaurant around!!

HTH and let me know how your trip goes.

  34. Hi 'The Whimsical Wife'...

WOO TOOWOOMBA wow I totally didn't expect another lifestyle blogger from around here. I reckon by the end of this year I would've eaten at all the OK places in town hahaha. Any suggestions? I just had a quick squiz at your blog - it's gorgeous! Totally bookmarking.
